Saputara is the only hill station in Gujrat which lies in the green wooded plateau in the Sayhadri range. Perched at a formidable height of 1000 meter it has a pleasing weather throughout the year. There is a myth about Saputara. The very name of the place literally means ‘adobe of serpents’ which is derived from the snake like images found on the shores of Sarpaganga, the river which runs through the town.
The tribes of the locale worship this image during Holi, a major festival. The place also alludes to the Hindu epic Ramayana, it is said to have believed that Rama spent 11 years of his exile in the dense forests of this place. Saputara can be reached via airways, railways and roads. At a distance of 172 kms away, Surat is the nearest airport. There is nothing more on Saputara than traveling.
If tourists wish to avail the train route, Nasik, 80 kms away from this place, will be the most convenient railhead and there are daily and weekly air conditioned and non air-conditioned bus services available from Surat and Nasik. The visitors who are inquisitive in Saputara can visits places like Saputara Lake whose tranquility engrosses the visitors and the boating in the slow moving water waves is quite enjoyable.
The ropeway which is run by the Hotel Vaity is a tremendous experience almost floating and overlooking the scenic vista of the bordered greenery with mountains peeping high.
